Time for Pitti Uomo, time for trends. And this year the key word is: relaxation. Right now, the new chapters of the forthcoming 2019 summer season are being written in Florence, and the scene set resembles that of an American film from the first post-war period. Indeed, because the items taking centre stage at Pitti are men’s shirts, in Hawaiian and bowling styles, interpreted by Xacus in the Heritage collection.
Large, informal collars; soft, comfy fits with exotic prints; lively, bright colours that offset a more posh proposal with solid colours on textiles such as lightweight Oxford cloth, linen and linen blend, as well as poplin and micro tencel. Common denominator: short sleeves, to be worn with irony in more casual outfits, but also kept in mind when creating more formal looks for the office and free time.
The men’s shirts presented by Xacus at Pitti Uomo 2019 provide a new take on the typical 60s/70s silhouette, flaunting a vintage touch and an aesthetic sensitivity reminiscent of the movies from the first post-war period (a must-see: Elvis Presley in the 1961 movie “Blue Hawaii”). Attention to detail, and so new mixes and matches, a colour palette presented in 15 new items – seven in solid colours and eight sporting exotic prints: these are the chapters of the story Xacus wants to tell for next year’s menswear scene.
But these will not be the only new chapters that Xacus is bringing to Florence. Indeed, during Pitti, the company will also be presenting a unique and prestigious editing project: the “Shirt Manual”, a book bursting with details that describes the history, shape and technical side of the shirt. The starting point for an itinerary, taking the traveller deep into the world of men’s shirts. A journey that begins in Florence and ends when it enters the heart of style.
