The beaches and colours of Waikiki, or the aristocratic elegance of the Hamptons are the style and culture references for “An American Summer”, the capsule collection for spring/summer 2019, which Xacus is bringing to Pitti Immagine Uomo 2018. A range of men’s shirts that reinterpret vintage ideas from the 60s and 70s, but in a contemporary key, continuing the limited edition path with its “Heritage” label, launched with great success last winter.
On the attic floor of the central pavilion in Fortezza da Basso – booth D7/5 – it will be possible to admire a comprehensive proposal that includes a capsule of 14 items, mixing fabrics and shapes to breathe new life into a style where the iconography has great appeal. It’s all about semi-cutaway and button-down collars on short- and long-sleeved shirts or men’s shirts with placket. And of course, the essential short sleeves in true bowling, Hawaiian or Cuban styles, with lots of exotic prints and welt pockets.
The journey into American summer continues with cool, breathable fabrics, like the obligatory linen shirt, linen blend, poplin and an ultra-light Oxford, but also cotton muslin and tencel, a natural fibre made from the Eucalyptus tree. On men’s shirts in solid colours, the effect is a garment with a worn, vintage feel, but with an elegance of days gone by. The florals on blue are an echo of surf culture, while there is also an almost photographic aesthetic with a flamingo theme on other models that are at their best when worn over a white t-shirt.
